UGANDA: NINTH (9TH) EDITION OF NICE CLASSIFICATION HAS BEEN ADOPTED BUT NO SERVICE MARKS AS YET
We would like to inform you that on 10th June 2009, the Trademarks Office, Uganda issued a memo titled "TRADEMARK CLASSIFICATION" to the effect that all trademarks registrations were to strictly comply with the NICE CLASSIFICATION. The Memo did not state nor imply that service marks were registrable just because they appear on the NICE CLASSIFICATION list.
The position is that services marks remain unregistrable in Uganda until the Trademarks Act is amended to that effect.
